AetherSense is a platform developed around electrochemical sensors designed to enabled remote monitoring and data logging of environmental indicators. Our current target gases are SO2, NO2, CO, and O3. The platform is designed to be modular, building off of tested technology developed in the Epic open mote project and using a common sensor interface socket that's compatible with HiJack peripherals.
Applications of this platform include high-density measurement for model validation of chemical species with complex or poorly understood concentration gradients in community sized and local areas, and deployment of large numbers of sensors for mass collection of data not possible with traditional detection methods.
This project is currently under development. Prototypes are available by request for pilot studies.
The electrochemical components of the AetherSense platform are fully compatible with the HiJack mobile phone sensing platform. This allows for citizen centric monitoring with the goal of engaging individuals with the air quality of their immediate surroundings in order to make them more aware and to shape behavioral changes that minimize exposure and environmental impact.
The Aether platform is built using a high-accuracy analog front-end for electrochemical sensors. The measurement precision and accuracy is under current evaluation. Target goals are to achieve detection limits for low-concentration environmental monitoring applications, which requires a resolution of part-per-billion range.
